The Geo-Geum Bridge is in the south eastern part of South Korea and connects Geo-Geum Island to the Korean peninsula. The bridge has a total length of 2,028m and the cable-stayed section over the navigation channel has a 480m-long main span.
The bridge has a composite truss girder similar to the one on the Øresund Bridge. In contrast to the bridge that connects Sweden and Denmark, the Geo-Geum Bridge has a central cable plane that carries a two-lane roadway on the upper deck and a bicycle and pedestrian path on the lower steel deck.
It has built as a design and build project by Hyundai Construction. Cowi, in cooperation with Cowi Korea, has provided services to Hyundai including an independent review of detailed design, construction engineering services and conceptual design and design review of temporary structures and construction methods. It has also provided construction control on site.
The bridge is expected to open for traffic later this year.
