A night-time operation has completed the first major placement of concrete for the new Indian River Inlet Bridge in Delaware, USA.
The pour of 760m3 for the first of the bridge's pair of northern pylons took 12 hours and involved 111 trucks of concrete. A further 26,6000m3 of cast-in-situ concrete will be required to complete the cable-stayed bridge, which will be 806m long and have a 279m clear span over the inlet.
The operation was carried out by Skanska USA Civil Southeast and Thoro-Good's Concrete, working with client Delaware Department of Transportation.
