A new cable-stayed pedestrian and cycle bridge opened today across New Zealand's State Highway 20 Mount Roskill Extension project. The 4.2m-wide deck is supported by 12 cables secured at the top of a 25m-tall pylon. Up to 2,000 people a day are expected to use the bridge, whose northern approach starts in the grounds of a local school. Six bridges will be built as part of the US$129 million, 4km extension.
