The designs are by Mott MacDonald and Grontmij. All are cable-stayed bridges, with different configurations of deck width, approach ramps and steps.

Publication of the designs also marks the start of a limited consultation about the bridge, which will provide a link to a marina.

“We have listened carefully to the feedback we received during the public consultation last summer, when many people told us they wanted to see a landmark structure linking the city centre to the marina," said Highways Agency project manager Jimmy Holmes. "Since then, we have been working closely with Hull City Council and other organisations to develop a number of visually-pleasing designs that are accessible and safe, and will attract people to the marina while being cost-effective to maintain. We now need to consult the people and organisations that would be directly affected by these proposed designs."

Start of construction work on the A63 Castle Street scheme, including the footbridges, is subject to the scheme being granted development consent and it remaining value for money. The Highways Agency plans to submit its application for development consent this spring. Advance works, including site clearance and archaeological investigations, could begin from autumn 2015, with full construction beginning approximately 12 months after that and taking around three years to complete.
