The technology is intended to improve both monitoring of hazardous conditions and traffic management on the 12.9km-long bridge, which crosses ice-covered waters to join the provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

The intelligent transportation systems will include sensors to monitor the bridge conditions and its movements and provide warnings.

Other systems will include a video incident detection system and dynamic lighting and signage. The projects will increase the efficiency, safety and reliability for the users of this critical transportation corridor, according to the governments.
