A local press report, linked to from the project’s official website, attributes the delay to factors including the need for more extensive reviews and calculations for the complex design, which must be able to withstand major earthquakes. Additional costs are expected to be submitted next month to the client, the Port of Long Beach.  

The bridge is being built by a joint venture between Shimmick Construction Company, FCC Construccion and Impregilo. The design is led by a joint venture team of Arup and Biggs Cardosa.
