Bulgaria's prime minister Sergei Stanishev has cut a symbolic first sod this week to start the construction of the new bridge over the Danube linking Vidin to Kalafat in Romania.
The bridge is being built by Spain's Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas. The engineer of the project is a consortium of Ingerop and High-Point Rendel. Construction of the US$320 million bridge is due to take 38 months.
