Two tower cranes fell yesterday during a burst of high wind at the Colorado River Bridge site in Nevada, USA. The working day had ended and no injuries were reported. The tower cranes stood on opposite sides of the canyon, enabling the set-up of dual high-lines. This meant that the entire bridge length was accessible by crane hook for delivery of materials used in both foundation structures and the main arch crossing, as in this photograph taken prior to the collapse. One of the cranes and its attached cables fell onto the US 93 highway on the Nevada approach, neccessitating a complete closure of the road.
