Implenia, the Swiss and German construction company, is signed up with partners for three bridges in Norway and Germany.

The projects are the new Peene Bridge in Wolgast, north east Germany; a replacement bridge in Marktbreit, central Germany; and a new bridge over the Lågen to the north of Lillehammer in Norway.

The Peene Bridge project is a joint venture (JV) led by Implenia with DSD Brückenbau, Victor Buyck Steel Construction and Stahl Technologie Niesky. A new extradosed bridge, one of the largest of its kind in Europe with a deck to water height of 42m, will connect the island of Usedom with the mainland.

Work on the Marktbreit project, a JV with Plauen Stahl Technologie, started in the autumn. It includes demolition of the old bridge and the building of a new one. The design and tender was planned using building information modelling (BIM); and the client will be handed a digital twin on completion in 2033.

The Norwegian bridge is part of a new motorway. It will span an ecologically sensitive delta, so the segments will be cast on land and launched incrementally. Implenia has also deployed BIM to work within strict criteria that protect breeding birds, spawning areas and biodiversity.
