The 9.9km bridge will be built at Phaphamau in Allahabad. The project, which has a total capital cost of about US$290,000, has a three-year construction period and the aim is to complete it by December 2021.

Construction of the bridge is expected to generate about 920,000 days of direct employment.

Before May 2014, there were only 13 bridges over the Ganges between Allahabad to Farakka. An additional 20 bridges were then announced, of which five have been opened to traffic and seven are under construction. Work on three of the remaining eight is expected to start very soon. The newly announced Phaphamau project will therefore be the 29th crossing along this stretch of the river.
