The Irish Office of Public Works (OPW) has named the contractor who will build an active travel bridge at a First World War memorial site.
John Sisk and Son won the contract for the bridge in the Irish National War Memorial Gardens. The design is by Ritchie Studios (link opens in new tab). It was the winner of an international competition for the architectural and structural design of a simple span bridge for cyclists and pedestrians that crosses the River Liffey with minimal environmental impact.
The site, which is dedicated the 49,400 Irish soldiers who died in the First World War, was designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. The bridge, will improve connections with the wider Phoenix Park.
Funding for the project is from OPW and the National Transport Authority.
