Japan has offered to provide funding for a new suspension bridge across the Lower Volta at Atimpoku in Ghana.
The Japanese government is to send a team to Ghana in August to carry out a feasibility study into the project.
The new crossing will replace the Adomi Bridge, which was built across the Volta River in 1956. According to the Ghana Highways Authority, 120,000 people use the bridge each day.
