Japan's ambassador to Cambodia has signed an agreement for a US$130 million grant to build a major bridge over the Mekong River.
It will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in Cambodia, with a total length of 2,215m. A vertical clearance of 37.5m will allow container ships to pass underneath.
A ferry is the only current means of crossing the river, creating delays on the main route between Phnom Penh and Vietnam.
