Washington State Department of Transportation has installed the first of three pontoon sections for the eastern half of the new SR104 Hood Canal Bridge.

The 287m pontoon UVWX is the longest of the new east-half sections for the bridge that will connect Jefferson and Kitsap counties in the north west of the USA.

It was towed out of nearby Port Gamble Bay early yesterday morning and was in place by about 5am.

The next pontoon, RST, is scheduled to join UVWX later this week, weather permitting. Once the pontoons are in place, work will take place inside them to secure them and connect electrical and mechanical systems.
