The new crossing of Obhur Creek - about 20km from Jeddah - is inteded to play a major role in the development of the area to the north.
The bridge design is a tied arch and it has currently been developed to conceptual level.
It will have four traffic lanes in each direction, two footpaths and two lanes of rail transit. The rail lines will be in the median but above the vehicular traffic. The bridge will be designed with a shipping navigation clearance of approximately 16m at centre span and to provide a navigation channel of at least 200m width.
Metro Jeddah's prequalification questionnaire allocates points from criteria including experience with a tied arch bridge and experience of projects in Saudi Arabia. Up to eight prequalified contractors will be inited to tender. Expressions of interest have to be in by 4pm Jeddah-time on 14 December 2014. The questionnaire itself must be submitted by 4 January.
