Concession company Autostrada dei Fiori said that the landslide arose on the mountain above its Torino-Savona motorway. The landslide hit the Madonna del Monte viaduct, taking down 20m of the deck of the Torino-bound carriageway.

Autostrada dei Fiori said that no people or vehicles seem to have been on the bridge at the time. Its technical staff are verifying the integrity of the viaduct's Savona-bound carriageway, which doesn’t seem damaged by the landslide.

The motorway remains closed while investigations take place.
