The US$255,489,000 contract for the rehabilitation for the Longfellow Bridge, which carries Route 3 over the Charles River between Boston and Cambridge, was awarded to JF White/Skanska Koch/Consigli.

The US $292,155,280 Whittier Bridge/I-95 improvement project, which includes the replacement of John Greenleaf Whittier Memorial Bridge and improvements to eight additional bridges, has gone to a joint venture of Walsh and McCourt.

The two bridges are among five ‘mega projects’ in the state’s accelerated bridge programme. There is one remaining project’ to be awarded from the group, with the bid opening for the Fall River interchange improvement scheduled for 1 May. The Burns Bridge and the Fore River Bridge are currently under construction.
