Transport authorities in Mumbai have selected a contractor for a bridge connecting two suburbs separated by mangrove swamps, creeks and saltpans.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the governing civic body of Mumbai, named multinational L&T Construction as its chosen contractor for the 4.5km long bridge connecting Dahisar and Bhayander.

The elevated road with two carriageways and multilevel interchanges is the final part of the Mumbai Coastal Road. It aims to reduce the current 45-minute journey time between the two suburbs.

L&T has experience in the region, as it is already working on two other Mumbai Coastal Road projects for BMC.
