Completion of a new bridge linking Thailand and Laos has been marked with an opening ceremony followed by celebrations which will last up to a week. Visitors are now allowed to walk on the 1.6km bridge over the Mekong River to admire the views though it will not open for traffic until agreement is reached on legal aspects of its operation.
