The Manual on scour at bridges and other hydraulic structures – supplement (document reference SP171) is available for purchase now.

CIRIA said that there had been a need to update the Manual on scour at bridges and hydraulic structures (C742), which was published in 2015. The update takes account of recent and larger flooding incidents and a number of scour failures - including the structural failure of Lamington viaduct in 2015 - as well as changes to asset management practices.

cover of Ciria guidance SP171CIRIA said that information gathered in the new document focuses on experience from an operational context, and the state and maturity of current UK research aimed at producing future tools or improved techniques. It draws on literature reviews, engagement with industry and recent experiences.
