The transportation departments of the the US states of Minnesota and Wisconsin have chosen Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) to provide concept design and associated services for the St Croix River Crossing.

The bridge will be a segmental concrete structure with 1,055m of extradosed river spans. There will be seven towers with typical spans of 146m. There will also be 482m of approach spans in Minnesota. The new crossing, which will replace a historic lifting bridge, will include a footpath as well as traffic lanes in each direction.

PB's responsibilities include the development of design criteria, concept and architectural drawings, foundation options as well as cost estimates. Construction of the US$200 million project is expected to begin in late 2013, with completion slated for 2016.
