A pedestrian bridge over a creek in Giles County in the US state of Virginia collapsed yesterday injuring nine people.
The swinging structure was primarily used during times of flooding. It had been rebuilt in 1992 after portions of it were washed away and was last inspected in May 2007, when it was found to be in good condition.
Virginia Department of Transportation has worked to secure the area and gather information about what caused the collapse.
