The design team is led by One-world Design and also includes Expedition Engineering, Beckett Rankine, RPS environmental consultants, Thompson Ecology and Oxford Archaeology. The proposal has been developed over the past 12 months in consultation with the local authorities on both sides of the river. The planning application has been submitted to both Wandsworth and to Hammersmith & Fulham councils.
The team behind the bridge aims to achieve corporate sponsorship for the full US$35 million cost in exchange for naming rights. The bridge would be gifted to London at no cost to the taxpayer, government or local authorities.
The Jubilee Footbridge would cross the river between Fulham and Battersea. The design team said that a new pedestrian and cycle bridge alongside the railway bridge will enable greater integration between the north and south of the river, whilst also creating an extension to the amenity space available.
The estimated build cost is US$35 million and One-world Design said that financial appraisal indicates that the scheme has a benefit/cost ratio of 2:1. It said that this is above the Transport for London pass mark of 1.5:1, and is at the level representing high value for money in Department for Transport guidance.
