The Brazilian and Venezuelan presidents have inaugurated the second bridge over the Orinoco River in Venezuela. The cable-stayed bridge has four 120m-high towers and two 300m-long navigation spans. It has a total length of just over 3km. The bridge will aid transport of goods between Brazil and Venezuela's sea ports and the US$1.283 billion scheme seen by the Venezuelan government as the country's most important infrastructure project of recent years. Work was carried out by Brazilian contractor Oderbretch and supervised by Corporación Venezolana de Guayana.
