Technical innovation body Future Railway is inviting proposals for novel ideas that could potentially reduce the amount of bridge reconstruction required as a result of planned electrification of the UK rail network. The first phase of the process, which is being jointly backed by Future Railway, Network Rail and the Department for Transport, will see full funding to undertake feasibility studies for up to ten ideas.
The competition, which will be open for submissions until 2 May 2014, seeks solutions and ideas to develop novel methods of increasing the clearance below the bridge while avoiding reconstruction, minimising the cost of works and disruption to the service beneath and across the bridge.
