The organisers are seeking an iconic structure that creates a local landmark. RIBA Competitions is working with Salford City Council to run the two-stage competition, which has a first-stage deadline of 5 September. The competition is open to registered architects and engineers worldwide.  Team collaborations are encouraged and can either be architect or engineering led. The intention is to shortlist three teams for the second stage.

A feasibility report prepared by Urban Vision Partnership has advised that, depending on the type of structure, a new bridge in this location will cost up to US$2.9 million. This has been market tested by Balfour Beatty Construction Services. Stage 2 proposals will have to be fully costed to demonstrate they can be delivered within budget.

Details are available on the RIBA Competitions website.
