Norwich Council's executive committee is today considering a recommendation to allow the St Anne's Wharf Bridge project to proceed. The final US$1.1 million tranche of funding was agreed yesterday by the East of England Development Agency. The total cost of the project is US$3.9 million.

The steel bridge has been designed by Mott MacDonald and May Gurney is lined up to construct the project.

A developer, Gazeleys, was originally obliged to provide the bridge and procured a design, secured planning permission in 1999 and built foundations on one side. Changes in ownership and successive abortive regeneration proposals by different developers then prevented completion of the construction as there was no agreement for the other landing. This has now been resolved.
