The city of Shenzhen in China has announced that it will be connected to Zhongshan by a bridge to be built across the Pearl River. The new bridge was included in a government report at the annual session of the Guangdong provincial legislature.
The project is intended to bring about further the integration of Pearl River Delta cities. Cost of the bridge and a 50km expressway is put at US$4.5 billion.
No start date has yet been given. The uncertainty was partly because the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge had been given priority by the central government, said director of the Guangdong Provincial Development & Reform Commission Li Miaojuan.
