Skanska has signed a US$70 million contract to restore the electrical and mechanical systems of 12 movable bridges damaged during Hurricane Sandy, which hit the USA in 2012.
The work for the New York City Department of Transportation includes the rehabilitation of the mechanical and electrical systems, the replacement of submarine cables and the installation of temporary drives to operate the spans while the systems are being repaired. Skanak will also perform bridge operations and maintenance work during construction.
Construction is expected to be completed in December 2017.
