Tajikistan has signed a US$69 million contract with a Chinese construction firm for a project to build what will be Central Asia’s longest bridge.
The 920m bridge over the Surkhob River in Nurobod in the centre of Tajikistan is part of a highway project between Obigarm and Nurobod.
The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan and state-owned Chinese company Zhejiang Communication Construction Group agreed that the bridge would be put into operation within four years.
The feasibility and bridge design studies were completed by consultants from the Korean joint venture Dong Mayong Engineering Company, Seng Engineering Company, and Susang Engineering Company in collaboration with the Tajik state enterprise Research Institute for Design of Transport Facilities.
