The options are for a four-span steel arch design, a three-span concrete box beam structure on concrete piers and a five-span curved design with a primary concrete box beam structure on galvanised steel piles.



The design team is made up of Herold Engineering, Hughes Condon Marler Architects, architect Christian Floyd, 1st Team Consulting, Applied Engineering Solutions, Boulevard Transportation Group and Applied Ecological Solutions.

The existing structure was built in the 1930s and carries 18,000 vehicles a day.

It is coming to the end of its useful life.



The district of Saanich and the town of View Royal were awarded US$10 million of federal gas tax funding in September for the upgrading of the road corridor that includes the bridge. The target is to start construction in June 2012.
