The US Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released emergency funds to the Vermont Agency of Transport (VTrans) to pay for a bridge that was destroyed when a tanker caught fire.
In December last year in icy conditions a tanker carrying propane came off Bridge 129 near Irasburg, Vermont. The resulting fire destroyed the bridge over the Black River, as it continued burning for some hours and melted some of the bridge’s beams.
Traffic between Irasburg and Coventry is currently taking a 6km detour to avoid the bridge site.
