The plans for the pedestrian and cycle bridge are due to go before Hammersmith & Fulham’s committee next month.
The need for a pedestrian crossing between Wandsworth Bridge and Battersea Bridge was suggested as early as 1924 and both boroughs have included it in their planning policies.
The Queen set sail from the location during her diamond jubilee celebrations in 2012 and the bridge is seen as a legacy for the jubilee.
One-world design architects and the design team developed the proposal for the new bridge on behalf of Palace Investments and Hotel Rafayel. The design team includes Expedition Engineering, Beckett Rankine, RPS environmental consultants, Thompson Ecology and Oxford Archaeology. The project has an estimated build cost of US$34 million and Wandsworth’s financial appraisal indicates that it has a benefit/cost ratio of 2:1.
