Two bridges over the Cape Cod Canal, Massachusetts, USA, can now be rebuilt thanks to a federal award of US$372 million.
Sagamore Bridge and Bourne Bridge, which are known as the Cape Cod Bridges, are in line for replacement. In 2019, the owner of the two bridges, the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), recommended that they be replaced (link opens in new tab).
The grant means that Massachusetts Department of Transport (MassDOT) can start work on rebuilding the Bourne Bridge.
MassDOT and the US Army Corps of Engineers have jointly applied for a further grant of US$1.06 billion from the Bridge Investment Program for replacement of Sagamore Bridge.
