The 19km stretch of the Khandala Ghat section of the Mumbai–Pune expressway is notorious for accidents. But with an ambitious set of tunnels, viaducts and bridges – including Viaduct 2, a 650m cable-stayed structure with four 182m pylons – Maharastra State Road Development Corporation aims to create a zero fatality corridor.
Working with Afcons Infrastructure, formwork specialist Doka has negotiated steep slopes and hazardous stretches of expressway to raise one of the tallest bridge pylons in India.
