The Olympic Delivery Authority has announced that Adams Kara Taylor Engineers and Heneghan Peng Architects have won the competition to design one of the key footbridges in the centre of London's Olympic Park.

The footbridge spans 26m over the River Lea at a focal point between the main stadium and basketball and aquatics venues. During the Games, the bridge will have a total width of 55m to accommodate spectator numbers. Part will then be removed leaving two narrower bridges for legacy use.

The concept designs were praised by the design jury for making the bridge a spectacle in Games mode, followed by the later transformation to leave two footbridges linked by a central blade-like walkway offering views over the river and Carpenters Lock - a 1930s historic structure on the waterway.
