The municipality of Lima in Peru has begun construction of a new cable-stayed bridge.
The US$41 million Bella Union Bridge will have a single yellow-coloured inclined pylon and will carry six traffic lanes as well as making provision for cyclists and pedestrians.
It replaces a bridge that collapsed in February 2013. A temporary Bailey bridge was installed shortly afterwards.
Construction of the new cable-stayed crossing is expected to take 18 months.
