Tappan Zee Constructors have completed stay cable installation on the westbound bridge of the New NY Bridge this week, with 96 stay cables connecting more than 40 sections of structural steel to the four 127m-high main span towers. Following the completion of the stay cable system on the westbound structure, TZC will install the final section of westbound structural steel. The operation, scheduled to take place in the coming weeks, will occur near the centre of the 680m-long main bridge and will complete the westbound bridge from Westchester to Rockland counties.

TZC will also continue to anchor and tension stay cables on the eastbound bridge. Girder assembly installation on the eastbound bridge is set to resume this week. TZC will place four assemblies on two piers near the Rockland landing using the project’s large floating crane which is dubbed I Lift NY. The assemblies are large sections of structural steel, composed of 3.7m-deep girders.

They also include infrastructure to carry communications, electrical power, water and compressed air to support bridge operations. Each section is assembled at the project’s Port of Coeymans facility in Albany County and barged directly to the project site for installation. TZC will install 10 additional steel girder assemblies on the eastbound span in future operations, scheduled to begin later this year.
