The US$23.7m scheme is designed to relieve congestion on the two existing river crossings north of the city centre. The main feature of the project is the 90m-span Third Don Crossing, which will be constructed using twin open box steel girders supporting a reinforced concrete deck.

Balfour Beatty will also be responsible for the construction of a smaller bridge and 2.5km of road.

Construction work will start very shortly and the new bridge is expected to be open to the public by late 2015.
