The project, which is being led by Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) in partnership with Flagstaff, involves replacing the Fourth Street Bridge. The existing bridge has only one lane in each direction but its replacement will have two lanes as well as a protected path for bicycles and pedestrians on one side and a footpath on the other.
ADOT will use an accelerated bridge construction technique that involves sliding precast deck sections into place to reduce the time needed to complete the improvement work while minimising traffic delays.
The work is scheduled to be complete by next winter.
