International nonprofit Bridges to Prosperity, which has spent more than two decades building hundreds of pedestrian bridges to connect rural communities, has announced it is changing its name: as of January 2026 it will operate under the name Fika.

In Kiswahili, Zulu and other Bantu languages, ‘fika’ means ‘to arrive’, with the connotation of arriving safely capturing the organisation’s commitment to ensuring reliable access for rural communities.

The name change follows the charity’s evolution since its 2020-2025 strategic plan, which broadened its role beyond bridge building to include advisory services, training and leadership in rural transport infrastructure development. According to official communications, while the name changes, its mission, partnerships and dedication to high standards will remain the same.
