The last two of the John James Audubon Bridge's 136 stay cables have been installed, following last week's connection of the main span.

The cable-stayed bridge crosses the Mississippi River in the US state of Louisiana. Its 482m main span is the longest in North America. Two 152m-tall towers anchor the stays.

Flatiron is the design and build contractor for the US$348 million project, which is being carried out for client Louisiana Department of Transportation & Infrastructure. John James Audubon Bridge is one of 16 projects under a US$4 billion transport programme, which also includes widening the Huey P Long Bridge and a proposed Florida Avenue Bridge.
