Engineers working on the banks of the Xiangjiang River in Hunan, China last week rotated a 26,000t bridge segment into its final position.
The Xiangjiang River Bridge carries the Lilou Expressway. A 141m section of the bridge crosses a railway, and this was constructed parallel to the tracks before being rotated into position.

Engineers from China Railway Guangzhou Bureau used a full-casing, full rotation drilling rig to overcome the problems of the site’s complex karst geology, with caves and ultra-hard rock formations.
During rotation the 39.5m wide bridge section was balanced with support legs and sand boxes.
