City chiefs in the Chinese city of Taiyuan have chosen Hyder Consulting's design for a distinctive five-arch cable-stayed structure as the signature feature of a new road bridge over the Fen River. The bridge is the fourth in mainland China that Hyder has won in design competitions in less than two years. The North Middle Ring Road Bridge will have a total length of 310m and a central span of 90m. "The five arches that cross the deck diagonally and the structure's unsymmetrical cables will be unique to Taiyuan and give it a recognisable international landmark," said Hyder Consulting project director Francis Kung.
