The Chinese central government is investigating the failure of an under-construction bridge in the northwest of the country.
A cable on the Jianzha Yellow River Super-large Bridge snapped during a tensioning exercise on 22 August and the deck collapsed.
The structure was to carry a double-track railway over a span of 1.6km. It is part of the Sichuan–Qinghai Railway and was designed as a continuous steel truss arch bridge with two 100m tall cable tower frames.
