The Rhode Island Department of Transportation announced who will carry out works on 10 bridges along Interstate 95 between the cities of Providence and Cranston in Rhode Island.

The contract was awarded to the sole bidder: a consortium of Skanska USA, McCourt Construction, and Aetna Bridge.

Earlier this summer, RIDoT received no responses to a bid for the replacement of the pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete Washington Bridge.

The I-95 project also includes improving railway electric catenary lines under two bridges and other road improvements. The joint venture will be responsible for designing the bridge and road changes as well as carrying out construction.

Design work is set to begin immediately, with the project expected to take seven years to complete. The first crossing slatted for repair is the I-95 bridge over Elmwood Avenue in Providence whose condition has been classified as “poor” after inspection.
