BMD Constructions will work with Seqwater on the construction of the bridge, which is designed to be more flood resilient than the existing structure.
The existing 96-year-old single-lane Weir Bridge, currently connecting the suburbs of Kholo and Mount Crosby across the Brisbane River, will be repurposed and converted into a pedestrian and cyclist pathway positioned alongside the new dual-lane vehicle bridge.
This multi-million-dollar project is part of the East Bank flood resilience programme, which is designed to improve flood resilience and connectivity within the area.
