A 63m-long bridge weighing 250t was lifted into position in Copenhagen over the Easter weekend, as part of a project to create new cycleways across the city.

The bridge was designed by Dissing & Weitling and Cowi for the municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. It has a slim, closed steel box girder designed to resist the moment of torsion caused by horizontal curvature and the hanger force to one side. The single inclined arch is connected to the girder by pinned hangers and supported on the abutments.

The new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Ågade road is on the Nørrebro route, which is part of a major programme to provide 100km of additional cycleways across the city. About a third of all Copenhagen employees cycle to work and many existing routes are crowded.
