The contest is for design of a 185m-long pedestrian and cycle bridge over the River Miño, 100km north of Porto, and the closing date for entries is 23 October.

A panel of judges will shortlist three designs for the international bridge between Espazo Fortaleza Park in Goián-Tomiño, northwest Spain and Castelinho Park in Vila Nova de Cerveira, Portugal. The shortlisted teams will receive a participation prize of US$10,700 and the ultimate winner will be chosen from this shortlist.

Entries will be judged on their originality, consideration of the surrounding environment and river access, and their representation of the close links between the communities on opposing banks of the river. In addition to demonstrating experience in structural design and development of remarkable bridges, as a minimum entrants must have carried out design and construction projects in the last 15 years for at least two viaducts with a span over 75m long. The budget of the proposed solutions must not exceed US$4 million.

The final design winner will be tasked with drafting the pre-project plans, including modifications, as well as managing the pre-construction phase of the project. Upon successful conclusion of this phase the winner will be awarded the construction management contract.

The shortlisted designs for the new bridge are expected to be revealed in June 2018, and the final design in September.
