One worker was killed and 18 injured, some seriously, on Friday when an elevated walkway collapsed while under construction at the Atlanta Botanical Garden in the USA. The canopy-level 183m "skywalk" is designed to provide a route through the treetops of the park's wooodland.
The contractor was pouring concrete when the collapse occured. The park's website describes the walkway as "supported by a virtually invisible system of steel cable wires designed to hold the structure firm and steady without impacting tree roots".
General contractor Hardin Construction, is working with the authorities to investigate the cause of the collapse.
